TitleInterdisciplinary Research Opportunities in Educational Technology: The Case of Automated Writing Evaluation

Abstract: The development of effective educational technologies is a complex, interdisciplinary endeavor. We need learning science to define robust theories of learning and pedagogical principles, computer science to translate these principles into stable and accessible technologies, and user science to ensure that emerging technologies align with users’ needs and goals. This talk will use the example of automated writing evaluation (AWE) to showcase a variety of “entry points” and applications for educational technology research. However, other educational technology types offer similarly interesting research questions and opportunities.
